Bio(fluid)mechanics and hemodynamics

Our research studies the flow and transport processes of blood and biological fluids in various organ systems (cardiovascular, brain, liver, kidney, lymphatics) in humans and in animal models (zebrafish, mouse, large mammals) and artificial organs, as well as tissue biomechanical aspects of organ systems and medical devices.

We use advanced computational and experimental modelling, often integrated with medical imaging data,  to develop accurate, quantitative methods and models for physiological phenotyping, understand the interaction of medical devices with their environment, understand the pathophysiology of disease, develop pipelines for pre-treatment planning of (robotic) surgical procedures, enhance radio-embolization procedures for liver cancer treatment, treatment of cerebrovascular disorders, etcetera
